Cala Codolar is a small cove located on the west coast of Ibiza, a few kilometers from San José. It is wilder and quieter than its neighbors Cala Conta and Cala Bassa. Its shallow rocky and seagrass beds, where many fish can be seen, make it a nice snorkeling location.

Cala Codolar / Es Codolá is a wild cove on the west coast of Ibiza. It is located about 20 minutes drive (13km) from Sant Antoni de Portmany. A few parking spaces have been set up at the end of the track, but they fill up quickly in summer.
Cala Codolar is less than 3km from Cala Conta, the island’s most famous beach, where you can also go snorkeling.

Cala Codolar snorkeling exploration tips
You can snorkel all over the cove, without straying too far from the shore. Facing the beach, you can swim above shallow rocky beds (↕3-6ft/1-2m), punctuated by algae and sea anemones.

In these shallow areas, dozens of saddled seabream are frequently seen gathering around bathers, hoping for some food. As you swim away from the shore, you will reach beautiful Posidonia meadows where mullets, seabream, and many other species are found.
Then head to the rocks that border the cove, on which many sponges are attached. On these small drop-offs, try to find sabella, with their pretty white or brown fans. You can also surprise cardinalfish hidden under the rock overhangs.

The cove is generally very calm, with crystal clear water. Watch out for boats if you stray from the edge.
