Distribution: from Eastern and Southern Africa to Southern Japan, Hawaii, Easter Island and Lord Howe. Also found on the Pacific coast of Panama. Its coloration is variable between brown, blue-gray, bright yellow or green.
Replaced by closely related Aulostomus maculatus in the Caribbean.
