Distribution: from Eastern Africa to Southern Japan, Easter Island and Lord Howe. In the Eastern Pacific, occurs from Mexico to Ecuador.
Arothron meleagris have two main forms, black with numerous small white spots or bright yellow. Some individuals coloration is a mixture of the two forms.
In its yellow coloration, frequently confused with Arothron nigropunctatus.
